Standing Rigging
Standing rigging refers to the fixed elements that support the masts and sails of a boat, such as the wires and ropes that hold the mast in place. Since these components cannot be adjusted during navigation, it's important to inspect them regularly.

These cables and ropes can affect the sail shape and therefore impact sailing performance.
Longitudinal standing rigging includes the forestay and backstays, while lateral standing rigging includes the shrouds (backstay, lower shrouds D1 – diagonals 1, intermediate shrouds D2 – diagonals 2).
